The Bali Marathon runs through the spiritual heartland of one of the world's most beloved islands — through Ubud's rice terrace landscape, past ancient pura (Hindu temples) with incense smoke drifting across the course, through highland villages where ceremonies are staged for runners, and along the Ayung River gorge. The 275m of elevation reflects Bali's genuinely hilly interior. September is the dry season — temperatures of 22–28°C and lower humidity than the wet season make it the most manageable window. The race start is accompanied by traditional Balinese gamelan music and temple offerings. This is a destination race: run for the experience, not the time. International runners from Australia, Japan, Singapore, and Europe have made it one of Asia's most popular destination marathons.
