Kuala Lumpur's marathon is Southeast Asia's most prestigious after Singapore, and the Petronas Twin Towers backdrop makes it one of the most photographed start lines in Asian running. The course runs past the Twin Towers at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), through historic Merdeka Square (where independence was declared in 1957), along the Klang River greenway, and through the traditional Malay and Chinese heritage shophouse districts. The 120m of elevation reflects KL's hilly Klang Valley terrain. October heat and humidity (25β31Β°C, 75β85%) are serious challenges β start time is 3 AM to mitigate the worst. Malaysian crowd support is warm and enthusiastic, and the food culture post-race (nasi lemak, roti canai, laksa) is world-class.
