Florence is the rare marathon that justifies running slowly just to absorb the scenery. The course threads through the UNESCO World Heritage historic centre past the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo), across the Ponte Vecchio, through Piazza della Signoria and along the Arno riverbanks. The 155m of elevation, while modest, comes in rolling mid-course segments through the residential hills south of the Arno — it's not a pure PB course but far from punishing. November temperatures are reliably cool at 8–12°C, and crowd support through the city streets is outstanding. For runners who want an unforgettable experience in a culturally rich city, this is one of Europe's finest.
