Monaco's marathon is the world's most exclusive and scenic, if not its fastest — multiple laps of a course that includes sections of the legendary Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit: the Fairmont Hairpin, the tunnel section, and the Casino Square approach. The 420m of elevation gain across multi-lap laps of Monaco's dramatic hillside terrain makes this genuinely hard. The course also passes the Prince's Palace on the Rock of Monaco, the Oceanographic Museum, and Fontvieille's industrial port. January conditions of 8–14°C are mild Mediterranean winter. Entry is oversubscribed and priced at a premium that reflects the setting. Running past the Casino and through the F1 tunnel is unlike anything else in road racing.
