Bangkok's marathon solves its tropical heat problem with a radical solution: start time 2 AM. Runners set off under the floodlights through the spectacular Sanaam Luang royal grounds near the Grand Palace, along the Chaophraya River, past Wat Arun's illuminated spires, through the expressway network, and alongside Lumphini Park before finishing at dawn. Even with the midnight start, temperatures of 26–30°C and 80%+ humidity make this challenging — but the spectacle of running through a Southeast Asian megacity in the middle of the night is genuinely unlike anything else. The flat course (30m elevation) means times are theoretically possible, but the conditions make PBs a secondary concern to survival and experience.
