Bucharest's marathon runs through one of Eastern Europe's most historically layered and visually eclectic capitals. The course passes the Palace of the Parliament (Ceaușescu's megalomaniacal structure, the world's heaviest building by mass), along the tree-lined Calea Victoriei boulevard, through the Herastrau lake and parklands, and past the Arc de Triomphe — Bucharest's echo of Paris that gave the city its 'Little Paris' nickname. The 95m of elevation is gentle rolling. October conditions of 9–16°C are very good. Romania's running culture is growing rapidly and Bucharest's marathon has become a proper destination race drawing runners from across Eastern Europe and beyond.
