Delhi's Standard Chartered Marathon is India's most important road race. The course runs through Lutyens' Delhi — the grand imperial city planned by Edwin Lutyens for the British Raj — including Rajpath (the ceremonial boulevard linking Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace to India Gate), India Gate itself, and through Connaught Place's circular colonnaded marketplace. The 60m of elevation is negligible — Delhi is flat. February conditions of 12–18°C are Delhi's most pleasant month. Air quality is a genuine concern — February is better than winter months but can still be challenging. Running past India Gate and down the Republic Day parade route provides a powerful sense of India's post-independence national pride.
