Queenstown's marathon consistently tops 'world's most beautiful marathon' lists and the superlative is justified. The trail-and-road course runs through the Remarkables mountain range, along the shores of Lake Wakatipu (one of the world's longest lakes at 80km), through the Central Otago wine region's pinot noir vineyards, and along the iconic Queenstown lakefront. With 690m of elevation across mountain and vineyard terrain, this is not a PB course — it's a mountain running adventure. November is Southern Hemisphere spring: 12–22°C, wildflowers in bloom, the snowcapped Remarkables reflected in the lake. The finish in Queenstown town centre, with the lake and mountains as backdrop, is one of running's great spectacles.
