Melbourne is Australia's most celebrated marathon and consistently ranks among the Asia-Pacific's finest. Starting near the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the course loops through the Royal Botanic Gardens, along the Yarra River, out to the bay at St Kilda, and back through Albert Park and South Melbourne before finishing near Fed Square. The 125m of elevation is spread across gentle rolling terrain — not a pure PB course but certainly manageable for sub-4h attempts. October is Southern Hemisphere spring: temperatures of 14–20°C are typical, though Melbourne's famously variable weather means anything is possible. Post-race in Melbourne — with the city's world-class food and coffee culture — is as good as any marathon destination on earth.
