Running in Reykjavik in August means experiencing Iceland at its most alive: the midnight sun that makes the city glow golden at 11pm, the dramatic coastal landscape of lava fields and geothermal steam on the horizon, and the pure clarity of Arctic air that makes breathing feel effortless. The course runs from Laugardalur sports park through central Reykjavik, past Hallgrímskirkja church (the country's most recognisable landmark), along the coastal road with views of Mount Esja across the bay, and through the geothermal Laugardalur valley. August temperatures are mild (10–16°C) and the light is extraordinary. The field is small and friendly — more of a festival atmosphere than a competitive race. Iceland is expensive, but the pre- or post-race opportunity to visit the Golden Circle, Northern Lights area, and Blue Lagoon makes the trip exceptional.
