Great for newcomers — manageable course, strong support
Stockholm's marathon in early June is one of the most visually unique on the European circuit. The course takes runners across the city's famous islands — Djurgården, Södermalm, and Gamla Stan (the medieval old town with its narrow cobblestone streets) — via multiple bridge crossings over the Baltic waterways that dissect Stockholm's archipelago geography. The finish inside the Olympic Stadium (built for the 1912 Games) is one of running's great moments. June in Stockholm means near-endless daylight, with the sun not setting until nearly 10pm, and temperatures in the 15–22°C range — warm but manageable. The course has genuine hills and bridge inclines that make it a challenging rather than fast race, but the backdrop is extraordinary. A bucket-list destination event.
