Lagos's marathon is Africa's largest mass participation running event, drawing 100,000+ participants across all categories in Nigeria's economic capital. The course starts on Lagos Island near National Stadium, crosses Carter Bridge over Lagos Harbour (one of Africa's busiest ports), runs through Surulere and past National Arts Theatre, and returns via Victoria Island's Eko Atlantic development area. The 70m of elevation is gentle. February brings the Harmattan season — conditions are drier and slightly cooler (25–31°C) than the rest of the year, though still warm by global standards. Nigerian crowd energy is extraordinary — the drumming, the cheering, and the sheer scale of participation (Lagos has 20+ million people) creates an atmosphere unlike any marathon in the world.
