About this race
Marrakech's marathon is North Africa's most famous road race — an exhilarating cultural experience that takes runners through the beating heart of one of the world's most atmospheric cities. The route passes through Djemaa el-Fna square, the medieval souks, the Koutoubia mosque, through palm-lined avenues of the Palmeraie, and along the grand Menara olive grove park. January weather is Marrakech's most pleasant (15–22°C), though it can feel warm by European standards. The Atlas Mountains provide a jaw-dropping backdrop on clear days. The course is largely flat but the medina sections involve narrower streets and cobblestones that require careful footing. The crowd is vocal and curious rather than marathon-knowledgeable, making it feel more like a procession through a festival than a typical city race.
