Casablanca's marathon runs through Morocco's economic capital alongside the Atlantic Ocean. The course passes the Hassan II Mosque — an extraordinary structure built over the sea with a retractable roof and a laser pointed toward Mecca, the third-largest mosque in the world — runs along the Art Deco Corniche with its white colonial-era buildings, through the Ain Diab beach resort area, and past the Anfa neighbourhood's villas. The 95m of elevation is gentle. October conditions are ideal — 18–24°C with Atlantic sea breeze. Morocco's running culture has grown rapidly alongside the country's production of world-class marathon runners (Hicham El Guerrouj, Nawal El Moutawakel). Casablanca is an underrated marathon destination with excellent flight connections from Europe.
