Madrid's marathon takes runners through the Spanish capital's most celebrated spaces: the Royal Retiro Park, Paseo del Prado museum district, Paseo de Recoletos, the Gran Vía boulevard, and the Palacio Real gardens. The Rock 'n' Roll series format means live bands at intervals throughout the course, creating a festival atmosphere that keeps energy high in the challenging middle kilometres. The 220m of elevation includes several significant climbs through Madrid's hilly districts. April temperatures are warm at 15–22°C, and the possibility of genuine heat (25°C+) in late April cannot be dismissed. The Spanish capital's passion for running has grown enormously — the start corrals are competitive, the course is well-marked, and Madrid itself is an exceptional marathon travel destination.
