Great for newcomers — manageable course, strong support
Riga is one of Europe's best-kept secrets for PB hunters. The course is essentially flat (just 35m gain) — running through Riga's remarkable Art Nouveau district (the largest concentration of Art Nouveau architecture in the world, UNESCO), out along the Jūrmala beach resort coast, and back along the Daugava River's right bank. May conditions are excellent — 12–18°C, low humidity. Riga attracts 20,000+ runners, and the Baltic nations' growing running culture makes for enthusiastic crowd support. Entry is exceptionally affordable, the organisation is professional, and Riga's emerging food and cocktail scene makes it an excellent marathon travel destination. This race is on the radar of European PB-seekers who want Frankfurt-level speed without Frankfurt-level entry fees.
