About this race
Munich's marathon is one of Germany's best-loved and most scenic. The course starts near the Olympiapark and threads through the massive English Garden (one of the world's largest urban parks), past the Chinese Tower beer garden, along the Isar River, through the elegant Maxvorstadt and Schwabing neighbourhoods, around Nymphenburg Palace's baroque canal, and finishes at the Olympiapark entrance. The 100m of elevation is mild. October conditions of 8–15°C are solid, though the Föhn wind from the Alps occasionally brings unseasonably warm spells. The race follows Oktoberfest by one weekend — a convenient combination for international visitors. Organisation is characteristic German efficiency.
