Oslo's marathon passes through one of Northern Europe's most architecturally and culturally distinctive capitals. The course runs through Frogner Park — home to Vigeland's extraordinary 200-sculpture installation — along the Oslofjord waterfront past the Operahuset, through the Tjuvholmen art district, around Aker Brygge, and up into the wooded Holmenkollen hillside before descending to finish at Bislett Stadium, the historic athletics venue. The 195m of elevation reflects Oslo's genuine topographic character — this is a hilly city. September conditions of 8–15°C are ideal. The race is mid-sized by European standards but impeccably managed, with a deeply committed local running community.
