Gothenburg's summer marathon — city of the famous Göteborgsvarvet half marathon — offers a full marathon through Sweden's maritime capital. The course runs through the historic canal district of Haga's wooden houses, along the Liseberg amusement park boulevard, past the Gothenburg Opera House on the Göta Älv riverfront, and through the Hisingen island industrial heritage. The 130m of elevation includes several modest bridge crossings. August conditions of 14–22°C are the warmest of the season for Swedish racing — a genuine summer marathon with long days and soft Scandinavian light. Gothenburg's ship-building heritage makes for one of the most architecturally distinctive marathon routes in Scandinavia.
