Zagreb's marathon is a genuine capital city race through one of Central Europe's most charming and underappreciated capitals. The course takes in the medieval Gornji Grad (Upper Town) around St. Mark's Church with its tiled roof, the green Botanical Garden, the lakeside Jarun recreation complex on the Sava River, and Bundek Park before finishing in the Ban Jelačić Square — the city's vibrant main square. The 145m of elevation comes from Zagreb's split personality: a flat modern lower town and a hilly historic upper town. April conditions of 10–18°C are pleasant. The race is well-supported by Zagreb's growing running community and attracts runners from neighbouring Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia, and Hungary.
