The Angkor Wat International Marathon is one of the world's most spectacular and meaningful races — the full marathon course runs through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Archaeological Park, the largest religious monument on earth. Runners pass Angkor Wat at sunrise when its five towers are reflected in the outer moat in pink and gold light, thread through Angkor Thom's South Gate causeway flanked by 54 stone devas and asuras, past the Bayon temple's 200 serene stone faces, and through jungle-shaded stone roads between ancient Khmer sites. December temperatures of 24–29°C are warm; the pre-dawn start manages the heat. Proceeds support Cambodian landmine clearance charities. An unmissable race for anyone visiting Southeast Asia.
