Chengdu's marathon holds World Athletics Gold Label status and is one of China's most popular — a well-organised, gently rolling course through the capital of Sichuan Province and the home of the giant panda. The route runs through the Tianfu Greenway ecological corridor (China's largest urban greenway), along the Jinjiang River through Chengdu's historic teahouse and bamboo district, past the Wuhou Temple (the largest Three Kingdoms heritage site in China), through the Jinli Ancient Street, and along the modern Financial City skyline. March conditions of 12–19°C are spring Chengdu — mild and occasionally misty. Entry is by lottery; the race's reputation for excellent organisation and strong prize structure has driven massive demand. Chengdu's extraordinary hotpot and Sichuan cuisine makes the trip worthwhile regardless.
