Lusaka's marathon is one of Southern Africa's most underrated running events — a genuine community race through Zambia's sprawling capital at 1,280m altitude. The course runs along the Great East Road commercial corridor, through the University of Zambia's green campus, past the National Heroes Stadium, and through the Longacres and Woodlands residential districts. July is Zambia's cool dry season — temperatures of 12–21°C and very low humidity make for some of the best running conditions in Central Africa. Zambia is one of Africa's most stable and safe countries, and the warm community reception makes this a rewarding destination for runners exploring Southern African marathon options. Victoria Falls is a 7-hour drive away — a natural race trip extension.
