Vilnius is one of Europe's most beautiful and least-visited capitals, and its marathon reflects the city's character: authentic, uncrowded, and historically rich. The course runs through the UNESCO-listed Baroque Old Town with its 1,500 preserved buildings, past Vilnius Cathedral, the Gate of Dawn, Gediminas Tower, and along the Neris and Vilnia river parkways. The 120m of elevation includes several climbs through Vilnius' hilly terrain. September conditions are ideal — 13–19°C — and the city's amber September light through the Baroque spires is extraordinary. Entry is very affordable, crowds are warm, and Vilnius' emerging culinary scene (cepelinai, kibinai, craft beer) makes post-race recovery excellent.
