The St. George Marathon is consistently ranked among the fastest road marathons in the world. The point-to-point course descends 450m net from the Pine Valley Mountains to the finish at Vernon Worthen Park, passing through Snow Canyon State Park's red rock formations and lava fields. October conditions of 7–16°C are near-perfect for racing. Pacer groups cover every five-minute goal time, organisation is world-class, and the volunteer ratio is exceptional. Entry is by lottery — apply in January for October — due to consistent oversubscription from Boston qualifier hunters.
