Havana's marathon is unlike anything else in running. The course runs through Habana Vieja (Old Havana) — a UNESCO World Heritage site of Baroque and neoclassical architecture — along the famous Malecón seafront boulevard, through Vedado's tree-lined revolutionary streets, and past the Capitolio and Plaza de la Revolución. The heat (22–30°C in October) and humidity make this a serious challenge for PBs, but the sensory experience is extraordinary: salsa music, vintage 1950s American cars, amateur musicians playing in doorways, and spectators offering rum and oranges. Cuba's isolation means this is genuinely unlike any other marathon experience on earth.
