Mexico City's marathon is one of Latin America's largest and most iconic, run through one of the world's great metropolises at a formidable 2,240m above sea level. The course passes Chapultepec Castle, the Torre Latinoamericana, the Zócalo (the Americas' largest public square), and the Angel of Independence on Paseo de la Reforma — a route that reads like a tour of Mexico's cultural heart. The altitude makes this extremely demanding for unacclimatised runners; expect times 5–8% slower than sea-level races. August brings dry season conditions of 13–20°C, mild by the capital's standards. The scale of crowd support — millions of residents lining the route — is extraordinary.
