Muscat's marathon is one of the Arabian Peninsula's finest — a fast, scenic course along the Gulf of Oman coast in conditions that are among the Middle East's most comfortable for racing. The course runs along the Corniche promenade past the Royal Opera House and Al Alam Palace, through Muttrah's ancient fish and gold souk waterfront, past the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (one of the world's most magnificent mosques, with a 50m single-crystal chandelier), and along the coastal Qurum beach district. January conditions of 18–24°C with low humidity are exceptional for an Arabian Peninsula marathon. Oman's combination of safety, Bedouin hospitality, and extraordinary desert-to-sea landscape makes Muscat an increasingly popular destination race.
