Amman's marathon reflects the city's extraordinary topography — a city built across seven (now 19) hills at 840m elevation, with the ancient Citadel (Jabal al-Qal'a) and the Roman Theatre of Jerash visible throughout. The 380m of elevation comes from Amman's genuinely hilly urban landscape: the course climbs from West Amman's modern commercial districts through the Rainbow Street arts and café quarter, down to the Downtown Roman Theatre, up to the Citadel, through Abdali's new urban redevelopment, and returns through the Jordan Gate business district. April conditions of 15–22°C are Jordan's sweet spot before summer heat. Amman is one of the Middle East's most welcoming and food-rich capitals — the mansaf and knafeh waiting at the finish is the real prize.
